U.K. Pop Groups Take Aerosmith Classic To No. 1

The U.K.'s new favorite single is this year's official song of the BBC's Comic Relief telethon, a cover of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" which pits two of the nation's most popular groups "against" each other and is billed as Sugababes Vs. Girls Aloud. The track, on Fascination/Island, raced to No. 1 on the new sales charts as "X Factor" contestants dominated the album tally, with Ray Quinn's "Doing It My Way" (Syco Music/Sony BMG) new at the top and Ben Mills' "Picture of You" (Sony BMG) in at No. 3.

Another single for Comic Relief, Scottish duo the Proclaimers' update of their No. 11 U.K. hit of 1988, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" featuring comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas, debuted at No. 3 on EMI. The original version also reappeared on the chart at No. 37. Take That's "Shine" (Polydor), which was No. 1 for the last two weeks, fell to No. 4, and Scottish dance artist Calvin Harris jumped 17-10 with "Acceptable in the '80s" (Columbia).

Diddy's "Last Night" (Bad Boy) climbed 30-14 and Take That's previous chart-topper "Patience" moved back 20-16, while "Destination Calabria" (Data) by Italian DJ Alex Calabria featuring U.S. vocalist Crystal Waters entered at No. 18. It's Waters' first appearance in the U.K. top 20 since "100% Pure Love" reached No. 15 in 1994.

Just outside the top 20, Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini rose 35-21 with "Last Night" (Atlantic) and countrymen the Fratellis made a No. 24 start with "Baby Fratelli" (Universal Island).

Quinn's winning start to his album career helped push Kaiser Chiefs' No. 1 seller of the last two weeks, "Yours Truly Angry Mob" (B-Unique/Polydor), down to No. 6, with Take That's "Beautiful World" (Polydor) back up 3-2. Simply Red's "Stay" (simplyred.com) came in at No. 4 and "The Very Best of Dolly Parton" (Sony BMG), which last week became her first-ever U.K. top 10 album when it debuted at No. 9, climbed to No. 8.

Joss Stone's third album, "Introducing Joss Stone" (Relentless/Virgin), made a somewhat modest start at No. 12, while its first single "Tell Me 'Bout It" dipped from its No. 28 debut to No. 40.
