| Re : members in USA, england, come and talk about life there :) let me tell you php that racism is a worldwide problem.i can't really tell about racism all over usa but i can tell you about san francisco. here.people are not racist at all but they are very peaceful.the fact that i'm muslim and arabic didn't change anything. the real problem is us because we don't explain our religion and culture to other cultures

| Re : members in USA, england, come and talk about life there :) I completely agree with lost in the respect that, people out there are not inherently and necessarily racist. They just don’t know that much about our culture. Once you explain to them your beliefs, customs and the reasons behind they become more respectful and radically change they views on us. My experience is slightly different, I’ve never been to the states but I lived in the UK. When we were studying British culture at Uni in Tunis, we were told that English people are cold, very narrow-minded and racist. But they are NOT! I really enjoyed living there. They were so eager to know about my culture, so curious about my religion and I actually enjoyed talking about it as they were so receptive and respectful. When we had some occasional staff dinners in the school I was teaching, their first concern was to buy halal meet, and I didn’t even ask for it (I was only planning to have salads! Lol). It was also funny to notice that the racist people there were not necessarily the natives. In fact, the whole Asian community there (in Leeds) not only didn’t integrate (some of them do not even speak English, I mean at all) but was also very disrespectful and held very bad opinions about occidentals. As an instance: my students (Muslim Asians for the majority) were shocked to learn that my housemate was Spanish. They were like: ohh, she must be filthy, she eats pork, she must be disgusting to live with.. and I mean when you know that their age is only 14, you can guess that they just repeat what they hear at home. There are of course exceptions, and surely racist people, but thank God I didn’t come across any. Last time I’ve been to London, a couple of months ago, there was a big racism scandal on a TV show: Celebrity Big Brother broadcasted on channel 4. One of the housemates, Jade (a very thick and stupid person) was all the time bullying a Bollywood actress. The whole country was upside down, and the British minister of foreign affairs had to go to India to apologise. Anyways, living there was a great and enjoyable experience for me. I learned a lot about plenty of different cultures and I also learnt more about myself.
