    Regional idioms and words

We live within kilometers from each other. Yet, from region to region, some words vary, some idioms very...

For instance, when I used to work in Gafsa I couldn't understand what my students meant by "thour" until it turned out to be the equivalent of our "9oum". Also, mis_hap's verb "yetloubi9" as opposed to Mom's "yetlabba9". I can notice that differences are bigger between north and south (and sometimes I don't understand Sfax people's words, for instance).

Have you got any examples to spare?

I don't recall them right now. But I remember my ex used to use so many words I had to ask about though he lived a long time in Tunis. There's for instance the word for msal7a or sberka...they have a different one. I forgot it. There's also the word "ekdess" for "o93od" (have a seat), "layn" for "alech" (why)...

Sorry I'm so busy I can't focus that much here right now.

    AW: Regional idioms and words

i know that in tunisia there is more than 3 synonyms for the verb to see, like:
    - ara
    - oghzor
    - shouf
    -gahheb (or so, from sahel)
    - thabbet
    - ashba7

    weird

okhzor is more to look than to see, no? (it's more intentional). However, I didn't know that "gahheb" term. Funny how we tend to use so many words to refer to only one thing and sometimes, even that huge vocabulary betrays us.

I meant for me it's like look and see. Regarder et voir. That is to say okhzor = look and yara / ychouf = see, except for imperative when we ask the person to look so it's intentional if they do. I don't know if I'm right. I'm probably not. But that's how I see it.

Oh, mis_hap, you always have that gift of making me feel I'm not Tunisian. What's this 7aggueg echba7?? 7aggueg men 7a99a9a you7a99i9ou ta79i9an? does that mean ythabbet? Oh, no way to try to guess, I'm not even close, I don't know it, what is it please?? I've never heard that before. What region does it belong to?
